So today is my birthday. Mr. Foxy made me breakfast in bed to celebrate. Only it wasn’t the delicious food that woke me up—it was the smoke alarm. Apparently he was so tired that he forgot to use the vent while cooking the smoked-salmon hash. Fortunately, our sleepy 6:00 a.m. breakfast was still delicious.
Of course Mr. Foxy let me sleep in a little because it’s my birthday. Also, because I was exhausted after escorting fifty 6th-graders on an all-day field trip yesterday. Followed by a 2-hour School Advisory Council meeting that evening. Seriously, this parenting gig is HARD. (I was going to make a “That’s What She Said” joke, but it seemed vaguely inappropriate given that I was talking about parenting.)
While I don’t have little babies in my house anymore, I’m still damn tired. All. The. Time.
And that reminded me. Recently one of my essays was published in the book, Motherhood May Cause Drowsiness: Funny Stories by Sleepy Moms:
The moms of Motherhood May Cause Drowsiness are here to make you laugh, shed a tear or two, and feel connected to other moms who are going through the struggles of everyday life with children: a messy house, boredom, cabin fever, depression, guilt, anxiety, drinking, self-doubt, elation, joy, laughter, love, and happiness.
And although we live in different parts of the world, in different houses (and we have different hair styles), we have one common thread: WE DON’T GET ENOUGH SLEEP! Welcome to our world, and yours!
Since I’m exhausted right now, I thought it would be fun to celebrate my birthday by giving a signed copy to one of my blog subscribers.
It would have probably been better if I thought of this idea yesterday. Or even before lunchtime. But I’m tired. (See a theme here?) And it’s my birthday so I can do it whenever I want. (That’s what she said.)
I figured I should take a picture of myself with the book to make this giveaway more appealing. I took about a thousand pictures, but none of them came out that great. The house was too dark. The front yard was too light. The backyard had weird patches of sun. I couldn’t extend my arm long enough to get myself and the book in the frame. I settled on the following picture, taken as I was tripping backwards into my flower bed.
So here’s the deal. On Friday at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time, I will randomly select one of my blog subscribers to win the book. If you’re already subscribed, you don’t need to do a thing (but it’s always good karma to share with your friends). If you aren’t already subscribed, go fix that right now.
